This year’s distinction carries even greater significance, as Greece retained its position as the world’s second-ranked country among the 51 nations participating in the international Blue Flag programme in 2026. According to the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature (HSPN), the programme’s National Operator in Greece, a total of 624 Greek beaches were awarded the Blue Flag this year, further confirming the country’s consistent standing among the world’s leading coastal tourism destinations.

The Blue Flag is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious international quality certifications for organized beaches and extends far beyond water cleanliness alone. It is an internationally recognized award granted to beaches that meet strict criteria relating to environmental protection, safety, organization, accessibility, and service quality. For residents and visitors alike, the Blue Flag serves as a guarantee of an enhanced seaside experience. For investors, it represents yet another indicator of the region’s enduring appeal, strong infrastructure, and sustained development prospects.
