Every project is designed and delivered under one framework of responsible development, with a consistent approach to sustainability and smart innovation across the whole masterplan.

Shared infrastructure supports a modern, self-sufficient community built on energy efficiency, green mobility, digital innovation and careful use of resources. Advanced technology runs through every project: next-generation telecommunications, high-speed broadband and smart solutions for energy, transport and public infrastructure.

Beyond its environmental performance, the destination is designed for long-term value: new jobs, business growth, better access to the region and sustainable development for the wider area.

Alexandrou Chora

The Land of Gods.
An ancient crossroad.

A landmark in the historical record, and the starting point of a new world.

A historical landmark

In antiquity the Ofrynio coast was known as Sarissa: this is where the soldiers of Alexander the Great trained with the long spear of the same name, made from the cornel wood of Mount Paggaio. Next to it lay Pelta, named after the soldiers who carried the pelta shield and camped in the area.

Shaped by Alexander the Great

Alexander left a strong mark on Ofrynio and the surrounding area. A military genius and one of the greatest leaders in history, he built the largest empire of the ancient world, and his life has fascinated historians and the public for more than 2,000 years.

Sarissa: the long spear made of cornel wood, the main weapon of the Macedonian phalanx.
Pelta: a small, light shield, probably of Thracian origin, usually crescent-shaped and made of wicker covered with leather.

A place that has existed since the beginning of time, linked with ancient myths and timeless values.

Location

Between the mountain
and the Aegean

Golden sandy beach on the Ofrynio coastAlmond trees in blossomOlive grove in the Paggaio area

Protected by nature

Its strategic position, landscape and mild climate made the area an ideal base for the army of Alexander the Great. It is naturally protected by Mount Paggaio on the mainland and Mount Athos across the sea.

An open view of the Aegean

Nothing says Greece like the blue of the Aegean. The Ofrynio coast has an endless golden sandy beach that shows it at its best.

Under Paggaio, the rich mountain

A mountain of myths and ancient rituals, home of the god Dionysus and, by legend, of Orpheus. Forests of beech, fir, chestnut, plane and oak cover the slopes that were once the main source of gold and silver in ancient Greece.

Natural wealth, local flavours

A wine tradition going back thousands of years, tsipouro, world-famous PDO olives, virgin olive oil, almonds and excellent honey from the rich local flora.

Where the Strymonas meets the sea

The estuary next to the destination is a Natura 2000 area, rich in biodiversity and home to rare bird species, including flamingos.

Close to Mount Athos

The Holy Mountain, a self-governed monastic community and UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most important centres of Orthodox monasticism.

Endless places to explore

Lakes Volvi and Kerkini, Nestos River National Park, the caves of Alistrati and Aggitis, the springs of Agia Varvara and the Leivaditis waterfall.

Between Kavala and Thessaloniki

Between two historic cities that shape the future of the region, near Amphipolis and Philippi, once linked by the ancient Via Egnatia.

History all around

A nucleus of archaeological and historical masterpieces

Ancient Amphipolis

The Lion of Amphipolis, the ancient port, the Archaeological Museum, ancient walls and tombs, and the ancient bridge, one of the oldest wooden bridges known. Nearby, the Kasta Tumulus, the largest ancient burial mound ever found in Greece, brought the area to the centre of global interest.

Philippi

The ancient theatre, archaeological sites, museums and monuments of a city that flourished in antiquity and is today a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Cultures that blend together

Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman layers of history, side by side.

A long religious tradition

According to tradition, the Apostle Paul preached here and founded at Philippi the first Christian church in Europe, where Lydia was baptised. On the slopes of Paggaio, at about 600 metres, stands the Holy Monastery of Panagia Ikosifinissa, founded in the 5th century AD.

Nikos Kourtidis, President of Kourtidis Group

Looking back, I see a journey defined by creation, conviction and meaningful achievement. Looking ahead, I see the future of a place we loved from the very beginning and consciously chose to serve. We did not invest here simply because it was a business opportunity. We invest because we deeply believe in the value of this land, its people, its history and its future.

Alexandrou Chora is the most authentic expression of that belief: landmark developments that honour the region’s heritage, strengthen its growth and leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.

We build today with a deep sense of responsibility, so that future generations inherit a place that is stronger, brighter and more vibrant than ever.
